Weatherheads Web sponsored the Poetry Trail 2025 as part of the Turn the Tide Festival in Dawlish! 19th May to 1st June 2025
POEMS ABOUT MARINE CONSERVATION
FOLLOW THE TRAIL AROUND DAWLISH AND ENJOY OVER 25 POEMS Poetry Trail Leaflet
Angie Weatherhead (Weatherheads Web and Turn the Tide) organised the trail. Two local poets (Elaine Jarvest Miller and Robin Buchanan) kindly judged the poems anonymously and local venues have placed the poems in their windows. Elaine and Angie last ran a poetry trail in 2017 and were delighted to run it again in 2025.
All time given to the trail was voluntary. I-Design printed the trail. Over 30 entries were received and 27 were selected for display.
There is one overall winner, second and third prizes and a special EX7 prize.
This is the 4th year of Turn the Tide taking place. Turn the Tide is a fun, free, family-friendly environmental festival for all ages on Dawlish Lawn. Turn the Tide is a community interest company, non-profit, run entirely by volunteers. The event is run with the support of Dawlish Town Council. Turn the Tide is on Monday 26th May 2025 on the Lawn in Dawlish. Prizes for the competition will be awarded at the opening ceremony at 10am by the Mayor of Dawlish.
The theme of the poetry competition was marine conservation. The poems often contain heart felt pleas and have a meaning that we can all take action to save our marine environment.
The prize winners are:
1st Prize – Artist on the Beach – Suzannah White
2nd Prize – Beach to Ocean – Helen Ashley
3rd Prize – The Survivors – Veronica Aaronson
EX7 Prize – The Song of the Sea – Tess Challenger
Download the Turn the Tide Poetry Tail Leaflet in full to follow the Trail! Copies will be available at the Library and at the Festival on 26th May 2025.
